Furniture And Your Home Decor

Author: Victor Epand

Walking into a nicely decorated home is like meeting a well
coiffed person, because every thing is in place, while each room
is carefully arranged and the furnishings seem to accent rather
than over shadow the home's design.

Quality furniture should bring out your home's best features,
but attractive furnishings do not happen by accident. In fact, a
home owner or apartment dweller must take the time to shop for
just the right arrangement of pieces in an effective period
style that will suit both the home and its occupants. A single
person or a young couple just starting out may not have the
luxury of buying matching pieces. In fact, they may pick and
choose what they need from yard sales or second hand stores, but
those with steadier incomes and discretionary funds to spend may
wish to purchase roomfuls of furniture that create an ambiance
that is soothing and aesthetically appealing.

When you are ready to shop for furniture, then you may want to
first browse newspaper ads or on-line web sites to get an idea
of what is available. With numerous styles like Mediterranean or
early American to choose from, then you will want to match the
furniture design to your home for a coordinating effect.
Contemporary furniture in a Victorian home may not be the blend
you want. If not, then shop for a variety of pieces and suits
that will fit your home's theme or style. Compare wood grains
and hues as well as fabric styles and types in finding the best
fit for your living room or bedroom.

Another thing to keep in mind is functionality. For instance,
will a white sofa in the family room hold up against three kids
and a Dalmatian? You may want to find another piece of the same
style in a different color and a more sturdier fabric. Find out
if you can vacuum or hand clean certain pieces of furniture, or
if they need to be dry cleaned periodically. Either of these
cleaning methods can entail cost or time that must be budgeted.

Do not forget to consider auxiliary pieces such as end tables,
coffee tables, lamps, and so on. These should work well with the
prevailing theme and furniture design to create a cohesive
theme, not a jarring one. You also will want to choose the
appropriate decor such as framed artwork or corner sculptures,
which will complement your furniture arrangements. A Ming vase
might look slightly out of place in a rustic log cabin.

Remember to include furnishings for your porch and patio as
well, as your budget permits. While these are much less
important than house hold furniture, they can also help to
create an impression about your property. They will also provide
you with comfort and respite from daily chores and hassles. Shop
for comfort and appearance, as you would for other types of
furnishings. Even family portraits can be framed in the same
type of oak wood that might comprise your china cabinet or
kitchen cup boards.

Best Regards!!

Understanding the different types of bathroom flooring

Author: Adam Peters

As depending on who is using it. And whatever the lifestyle of
the persons may be, bathrooms can come in various sizes and
shapes. It can look very rich and large and can serve more
purposes than what it is originally meant for. It actually
depends on the user, and how much money he or she can spend on
making it cosy and comfortable. So also the bathroom flooring
will also depend on this choice. However, the one thing, that
remains, and in both the cases is that the bathroom flooring
needs to be chosen very carefully. This choice to depend upon
the kind of accessories and fixtures that are being used in the
bathroom. If not taking good care of the bathroom can be very
dangerous and can create many accidents. One has to therefore be
very careful, not only about the flooring but also the
maintenance of the bathroom in general. Therefore, one is to
consider the safety aspect when choosing the bathroom flooring.

Depending on the size of the bathroom, one can decide upon using
a carpet flooring or normal flooring for the bathroom. The
advantage of the carpet flooring is that it absorbs the water
from the body and the feet when one steps out of the shower. On
the other hand, it also has certain disadvantages. The carpet
needs to be cleaned and dusted and dried very frequently. If
this is not done the carpet can be damaged, and will have to be
changed periodically. Marble flooring on the other hand, can
last for many years. However, marble flooring is not suggested
for the bathrooms as it is very slippery in nature and can cause
accidents. It is, however, beautiful looking flooring and can be
used in the dry areas of the bathroom. However, one needs to be
very careful and considered all the safety precautions when
installing marble flooring in a bathroom.

The other joyful bathroom flooring is to go for Hardwood
flooring. Hardwood flooring will last for many years and is also
generally durable in nature. However, in the areas where it is
exposed to moisture one has to be very careful to continuously
wipe it out and make it dry. If this is not done on a periodic
basis, the Hardwood become damp. In many cases, it may observe
water to such an extent that it may become home for rodents ants
alike. When it should be very careful in these cases. So one is
to be very careful when installing Hardwood in the bathroom. It
is preferable to install these in the dry areas and choose other
types of flooring for the wet areas of the bathroom. Doing this
will give you a combination of two types of flooring and a
virtual division, creating two sections in your bathroom itself.
Such combinations are appreciated and add to the interior decor
value of your bathroom.

There is also another type of flooring, which can be used to the
bathroom, and that is laminate flooring. The advantage with this
type of flooring is that it is easy to maintain. The dirt and
dust can be easily wiped and all the stains can be removed
quickly from the step of flooring. Laminate flooring thus
requires minimal maintenance and has proven to be a better
choice for people who find it difficult to claim the bathrooms
very frequently. This can be a boon for those who have very
little time. And yet want the bathrooms to look neat and tidy.
However, as in the other types of flooring is laminate flooring
also has its own disadvantage. Similar to marble and Hardwood
flooring is laminate flooring scanned the very slippery once
water spills on it and care is to be taken while using this type
of flooring. After all the main objective of having a bathroom
is for its utilitarian values and in this case safety comes
first. Once the safety aspect is taken care of, the beauty and
the interior decoration can be easily handled.

It is due to this reason that many people have shifted to having
simple tiles in their bathroom or even parquet flooring. These
are known to be very practical and comfortable in nature. The
number of injuries or accidents or injuries arising out of these
type of flooring is also minimal in nature. And therefore these
bathroom tiles have become very popular not only among the
middle-class but also the upper-middle-class of the population.

Cheers!!
